HIPSTAGRAM FTW - COPENHAGEN PHOTO FESTIVAL 2013
HIPSTAGRAM FTW*
In
connection to the Copenhagen Photo Festival 2013, a competition and exhibition
will take place called
“HIPSTAGRAM FTW” with photos taken by photographers using Smart Phone APP filters.

The categories are:
- Landscape
- Portrait
- Everyday Poetry – in a series of at least 5 photos.
- Portrait
- Everyday Poetry – in a series of at least 5 photos.
The use of
Smart Phone filters in combination with Social Media, have made the act of
taking photos a new daily ritual and way of sharing life and situations with
people in a Social Network. Since there is no question that this is part of the
future of photography, it will be highlighted, investigated and discussed as a
new aspect for the world of photography.
The
competition will be judged by the Director of Copenhagen Photo Festival Rasmus
Ranum, the Photographer and Photo Editor of the Danish
Newspaper Politiken, Per Folkver, the Director of Fotografisk Center Kristine Kern and the Artist and Photographer Jacob Fuglsang
Mikkelsen.
Instructions:
Send up to ten (10) images per photographer, either as individual photos or as part of a series.
The photos should be sent either one by one, or as a dropbox.com link to the email address: hipstagram@copenhagenphotofestival.com
Take the photos during this lovely month of May 2013, or use ones you taken before and send them in
no later than the 29th of May, 18:00 Copenhagen time.
Once the photos have been selected for the exhibition, they will be printed and shown as part of the official program of the Copenhagen Photo Festival 2013 and featured in Snap Magazine. The Final winner of the single best photo or a series of five photos, will win the latest iphone 5 with a one year free mobile phone account.

WE LOVE NEKE CARSON
When Neke Carson moved to New York in 1969 after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design he exemplified a new type of artist schooled in the cerebral conceptualism of Marcel Duchamp and inspired by Andy Warhol’s expansion of Pop Art into film and multi-media events. Carson quickly established himself as a conspicuous participant in the Fluxus-infused downtown scene where distinctions between art and life, and the separation between performing and object making, were often blurred. Although he was primarily a performance artist, Carson also exhibited objects in galleries. Equally important was his realization that newspapers and magazines provided a new alternative venue through which ideas could be communicated and audiences expanded.
This online exhibition is devoted exclusively to Carson’s early art from 1970 to 1985, the period in which he first established himself as one of the art world’s original thinkers. It is a show filled with unusual masterpieces: psychologically-charged drawings that hint at impropriety; ephemera from guerilla performances staged in Soho galleries without permission; the notorious rectal-realist paintings created with a paintbrush in his behind; and objects connected with ventures like Carson’s LaRocka Modeling Agency and LaRocka Nite Club (later Armageddon) that functioned both as performance art and real-life business. The works display Carson’s entirely individual take on things, his sense of style and humor, and the transgressive streak that has always kept him a little on the outside.
Gallery 98 is offering some of the best items from this early phase of Carson’s ongoing forty-year career. It is a challenging legacy not only because of the content of the works, but also because of the rarity of the objects due to a devastating fire in 1984 that destroyed much of Carson’s early work. Sometimes a printed announcement is all that remains from an important performance. There exist now only a few drawings from these years and their intent is not aesthetic but as expressions of ideas. What survives is an intriguing and unfamiliar body of work that establishes Carson as one of the most interesting artists to emerge in the 1970s, a decade dominated by performance, conceptual and neo-Dada art. And Carson continues to be active. For the last twelve years he has been organizing performance events at the Gershwin Hotel in New York; in 2008 he had an exhibition at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh; and in 2009 he showed new photography at John McWhinnie @ Glenn Horowitz Booksellers, NYC.
Neke Carson--who is also a member of The Triangle Project--exhibited his work at the Copenhagen Photo Festival in 211.
The exhibition was at the DAMP Gallery in Copenhagen and the opening was well attended, as you can see in the above video, that also includes the video screening of Neke's "Inglourious Bastrds Oiano Performance" video.

THE ELECTRIC ECO ISLAND
Ærø Landscape
The small island called Ærø (Aeroe), with a flag very similar to the Rastafari flag and the world's largest Solar Panel Plant along with a bunch of windmills all over the island, is expanding its green profile.

The latest great news from Ærø is their new little armada of Electric Cars (2013). Since the Island is rather small, one never needs to run out of energy as there are chargers installed in strategic places.
The cars can be rented from the local tourist agency during the summer when the island is packed with tourists that flock the almost too good to be true romantic and lovely little Danish Micro Cosmos of classic Danishness and cozyness. The rest of the year the cars are used by the municipality for hospice services around the island. One could say that we all live on an island. The island we move around on a daily basis; Home, work, shopping, school and close friends. Most of these places are withing a "island radius" and it it is really here the electric car is perfect. If they all can just be charged by windmills on that island...
Ærø also has one of the most colorful Ferrys seen by mankind, painted by the Danish artist duo "Randi and Katrine". Life on Ærø revolves around the ferry; who is on it, who just came to the island, who is leaving, what happened on the ferry.
The next ferry adventure on Ærø is the brand new Electric Ferry called "Ellen". It is the first all-electric passenger and vehicle ferry, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme. On Ærø, where there is both plenty of Solar Power and Windmills, most likely the Electric Ferry will be charged by the power generated on the Island.

Ærø is also known for its lovely girls that can be seen above enjoying the Electric Bough Bike in Galleri Fuglsang.
Another new feature in Ærøskøbing this summer is the mural painting in the entrance of Restaurant MUMM by Trine Sørensen and Anita van Wenkenes.
