WOMEN IN FOCUS AT BARCELONA'S 2008 SONAR FESTIVAL

M.I.A. in action

Donna Summer sang "Oooh, I Feel Love, I Feel Love, I Feel Love, I Feel Looove" in one of the first electro super hits of all times. It has inspired electronic music ever since and is still a classic anthem for any DJ, at any time and place. The 2008 Sonar Electronic & New Media Festival is putting extra focus on Women and female energy. We totally Feel Love for our Women and their contribution to the musical universe, especialy when some of the names are powerful women and unquestionable divas of modern pop like Goldfrapp and Roísín Murphy providing a contrast to the confrontational and multicultural glamour of M.I.A. or the vocal alchemy of Camille, the new muse of the "chanson française”.

The official website describes the festival as "Three days and three nights in touch with the most up-to-date developments and featuring the most relevant national and international artists.' and 'Sónar is the essential meeting point for an alert public, cutting-edge artists and the most influential professionals from the sectors of music and modern arts."

Sónar By Day takes place in the Center of Contemporary Culture (CCCB) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA above) very near to La Rambla. It usually starts around Midday and continues until around 10pm for each of the three days of the festival. Sónar by Night takes place away from the centre of Barcelona, there are special coaches put in place to transport festival goers to the huge venue Fira Gran Vía.

Key figures that are impossible to label, such as Justice,Yelle, Diplo, Spank Rock and Boys Noize give this year's programme an injection of hybrid energy and a proud display of the spirit of 'Do It Yourself’. Legendary Richie Hawtin will also board the Sonar spaceship together with his brilliant Istanbul VJ Ali M Demirel and set the dancefloor on fire.
